Youth on a Mission - The Southeastern FoodBank

June 29, 2011

On June 29, the West End Youth Fellowship worked a volunteer shift at the Norfolk warehouse of The Southeastern FoodBank.  The warehouse supplies kitchens and food programs all over the area (including Suffolk). Their job that day was to turn a gigantic, chest-high box of frozen peas into individual-family-size bags so it could be distributed to needy families and food kitchens to use to make meals. The Youth Fellowship scooped several hundred two-pound bags of peas in the 67-degree room -- a very cool way to spend a hot June day.

The participants were: Cindy Robinson, who organized the outing, and Caroline Luzzatto as chaperones, West End members Michael Luzzatto and Madeline Robinson, and our friend and frequent youth-group visitor, AnnRea Fowler.  The group had so much fun they are trying to go back and volunteer again in July and August.

Peas, peas, and more peas!

Please Mom, no peas for dinner tonight.
